Summary

The Immigrant Settlement Facilitator provides LEF clients with information on community resources to meet their needs, and assists with the operation of the settlement resource centre.
This is a 24-week position combining work experience, training and supports. Applicants must be 15-30 years of age and meet eligibility criteria.

Job Duties

  • Provide clients with information on community resources to meet their needs, such as housing, employment, education, training, health, immigration, citizenship, welfare, childcare, legal services, rights and responsibilities.
  • Develop workshop schedule and information sessions on relevant settlement-related topics.
  • Arrange for guest speakers on specialized topics of interest to immigrants.Advocate for clients and facilitate access to services.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the settlement resource centre and internet resource database.
  • Conduct computer training sessions on basic computer skills and internet etiquette.
  • Conduct outreach & promotion to community and collaborate with ethnic organizations, social service agencies, schools, faith-based groups, government offices, local and ethnic media.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the immigrant communities served in the community
  • Culturally sensitive and understanding of newcomer challenges
  • Second language skills an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proficient in the use of a computer

Eligibility Criteria:

Between the ages of 15 to 30, legally entitled to work in Canada, out of school, not receiving EI benefits, in need of assistance to overcome employment barriers

Duration: Oct. 18, 2010 to March 31, 2010
