About the Position:

Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women invites applications for a 3-day/week Project Manager to manage the FemNorthNet research project and its new community leadership training and development initiative for underrepresented women in northern communities.

FemNorthNet explores the experiences of women with economic restructuring in Canadian northern communities. It is a Community-University Research Alliance (CURA) project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Status of Women Canada funds the leadership development initiative through its Blueprints project. This position is based in the CRIAW office in Ottawa.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Monitors project activity progress to ensure that activities are completed according to schedule. Takes action to resolve problems and address delays when they occur;
  • Monitors the budget, reconciling monthly grant reports and annual financial reports, ensuring budget reports are provided to the management team in a timely manner;
  • Works with funding bodies (University of Ottawa Research Services and Status of Women Canada) to transfer funds to community partners and theme research team leaders;
  • Ensures that project activities and spending comply with SSHRC or Status of Women Canada administrative regulations and CRIAW administrative procedures. This requires a strong understanding of SSHRC, SWC and CRIAW policies and regulations;
  • Liaises to ensure that the appropriate procedures are followed;
  • Drafts correspondence and answers grant-related inquiries for the project;
  • Coordinates mid-term progress reports;
  • Works with the Director to supervise research assistants, community coordinators and others working on project activities;
  • Works with CRIAW Financial Assistant to manage, monitor and report budget activities;
  • Works with the Administrative Assistant to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner;
  • Works with the Administrative Assistant and Project Director to coordinate team meetings and conference calls and ensure notes are taken;
  • Coordinates development of the Website under the direction of the Project Management team;
  • Coordinates development of audio-visual interviews on leadership for Blueprints project.
  • Liaises with Community coordinators to document obstacles to women’s leadership, different community leadership models and experiences with them.
  • Coordinates development and production of non-academic and plain language
    materials related to the CURA and Blueprints projects under the direction of the
    Project Management team;
  • Responsible for writing the final publication on Innovative Models of Women’s
    Community Leadership in the North and liaising with Graphic Designer for final
    version.
  • Co-ordinates and follows-up on Project Management team meetings;
  • Co-ordinates Research Team evaluations of the project periodically as outlined in
    the proposal;
  • Develops indicators and tools to ensure accurate reporting for the mid-term and final
    reports to SSHRC and SWC. Liaises with community and theme team leaders to
    advise them and gather the needed information from students hired for the project;
  • Co-ordinates the mid-term and final reports;
  • Works with an external evaluator to develop an evaluation framework and conduct
    an evaluation of the Blueprints project for SWC.
  • Assists in the development of an ethics proposal and tracks the requirements for
    ethics approvals and renewals;
  • Develops a common style and branding for FemNorthNet materials, in consultation
    with the Management team;
  • Develops and maintains a system to co-ordinate and track knowledge mobilization
    initiatives, ensuring appropriate credit is given to FemNorthNet, SSHRC and SWC;
  • Works effectively as part of the Project Management team;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Project management experience of 3-5 years.
  • Knowledge of northern Canada is an asset.
  • Previous experience in research projects and a national organization.
  • Understanding and support of feminist analysis and methodologies.
  • Formal education: Undergraduate degree required. Preference for completion of a
    graduate degree.


Skills:

  • Excellent English verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills with members of the research network, the Universities, Status of Women Canada and the public, acting and responding with diplomacy while maintaining good
    relations;
  • Excellent working knowledge with computers, utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
    Access), E-mail, Internet researching, desktop publishing;
  • Experience with web site development and use of social media (You Tube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
  • Experience with developing and maintaining financial records and budgets and knowledge of accounting and accounting routines;
  • Proficiency in minute taking and accurate editing;
  • Strong problem-solving abilities;
  • Well-organized and able to accurately prioritize tasks and multi-task.
     

Abilities:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and provide leadership.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently when appropriate.

Compensation: 
The salary range is $50,000 - $62,000 pro-rated for 3-days/week
