Saskatchewan Co-operative Association (SCA) is a provincial coalition of co-operatives and credit unions which collaborates to support and promote the co-operative model for community and economic development. We lead youth education and engagement activities, provide co-operative development services, and offer learning and networking opportunities for the co-op sector.
We require a dynamic and progressive individual to manage exceptional youth programs in a full-time position. We are seeking someone to take our youth programming to the next level, by building on the solid foundation of 85 years of programming through our existing Saskatchewan Co-operative Youth Program, and by bringing new ideas and approaches to youth engagement that will launch us into the future.
Job Summary:
The Program Officer is responsible for delivering SCA’s youth programs that engage youth in activities and development opportunities that promote and contribute to the sustainability of the co-operative model as a mechanism for community and economic development. The Program Officer manages the volunteer, financial and human resources to assist in the delivery of the organization’s youth programs and services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan the Program:
- Plan and implement the delivery of the SCA youth program and its activities, including promotions, budgeting and operational plans, monitoring and evaluation, programming activities, and policy and curriculum development.
Organize the Program:
- Ensure program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization and all relevant legislation and professional standards.
Staff the Program:
- Recruit, interview, select and evaluate well-qualified Program Assistants, lifeguards and volunteers.
- Along with the Executive Director, supervise Administrative and Events Coordinator.
Advocacy of the Program:
- Secure additional external funding and increase SCA member association sponsorship of SCYP camps and other organizational objectives.
- Prepare periodic written reports on SCYP for Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Other:
- Plan, implement and manage additional youth programs as directed by the Executive Director (e.g. Co-operative Youth Services, Co-op Internship Program, School Curriculum project).
- Manages the SCA office, in the absence of the Executive Director, including supervising and directing staff, decision-making, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in education, social sciences, co-operatives, community development, non-profit or a related discipline is preferred. Combination of experience and education would be considered
- Experience working with youth
- Experience with co-operatives, the SCYP, or managing youth camp programs would be considered an asset

- Ability to work with and lead a diverse group of staff, volunteers and participants

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
- Ability to provide a clear routine criminal record check
Technical Competencies:
- Knowledge of the co-operative sector and the principles, values, and practices that govern co-operatives
- Familiarity with various co-operatives (i.e. credit unions, worker, housing, etc.)
- Strong report writing, curriculum and training design
- Excellent financial management, project, and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, including Access
- Valid driver’s license
