Action/2015 is looking to employ up to December 2015 on a rolling contract basis a Communications Officer who will support communications efforts and lead the coordination of action/2015 communications activities for the delivery of a highly innovative and effective campaign. S/he will support the Global Hub Coordinator and action/2015 Strategic Communications team with the development and implementation of communication and media strategies for projects, coordinate action/2015 coalition communications activities, campaigns and events.

Main responsibilities:
- Internal communication & coordination.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and work to amplify the voices of civil society based on stakeholder needs, through blog articles, short articles and other products for a variety of audiences;
- Support the support Global Hub Coordinator in maintaining regular and effective internal communications between the different groups of the campaign, and in actively facilitating the flow of information and sharing of creative ideas;
- Develop and use innovative tools and promotional material for effective knowledge sharing, campaigning, networking and resource mobilisation; and
- Assist with other communication asks as may arise.
Development of key campaign materials:
- Support the Global Hub Coordinator and action/2015 Strategic Communications team with the development and implementation of communications and media strategies for projects, campaigns and events;
- Write, edit, produce copy for communication products, and coordinate production of communication products including media statements, op-eds, newsletters, blog articles brochures, reports, mailers, and other products for a variety of audiences.
Media support and coordination:
- Identify and build a database of media leads within action/2015 partner organizations and national coalitions;
- Build relationships with these media leads to facilitate strong national media engagement;
- Pass on media and communications materials to media leads on a timely basis and to answer questions or respond to requests around these materials;
- Help devise and prepare media materials for media leads to successfully engage national media in their countries;
- Help identify opportunities for media leads to successfully engage national media in their countries; and
- Help facilitate training and provide advice to media leads around engaging with their national media.
Website development & content coordination:
- Coordinate with action/2015 teams and participating organizations for content updates and news for the website;
- Write and edit online copy and manage webpages through a content management system (CMS);
Social Media support and coordination:
- Identify and build a database of social media leads within action/2015 partner organizations and national coalitions;
- Pass on social media and communications materials to social media leads on a timely basis and to answer questions or respond to requests around these materials;
- Help identify opportunities for social media leads to successfully engage communities in their countries;
- Help devise and prepare social media materials for social media leads and guide staff and partners on the use of social media;
- Help facilitate training and provide advice to social media leads.
S/he will report directly to the action/2015 Global Hub Coordinator.
Qualifications and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma with major subjects in either Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Media, a related field or related work experience;
- Minimum 3 years experience across a range of communication functions (e.g. writing, editing, media management, strategic communication);
- Excellent communication, written and facilitation skills;
- Proven ability to deliver strong in-person, media and digital campaigns;
- Experience with web content management systems, social media and networking tools to amplify outreach;
- Ability and experience working in a team collaborating virtually;
- Proven ability to plan and achieve results under time restraints, pressure and budgetary constraints; and
- Strong command of the English language is required.
- Ability to speak, read, write fluently and to a high standard in either (but preferably in both) French and Spanish.
- Previous exposure to and solid understanding of the issues surrounding sustainable development, social justice and climate change;
- Experience of working in an organisation/network with multi-country operations;
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to respect and work well with people from different backgrounds and disciplines; and
- Political awareness and ability to handle sensitive issues with diplomacy in many different settings.
Hours and duration: full time, fixed-term until March 2016
