OVERVIEW:
The Network Coordinator is taskmaster, cheerleader, and the face of the network. The Network Coordinator facilitates all network activities, events, administration, and reporting as outlined in SET funding contracts. In 2015 duties will also include carrying out several community based research projects, facilitating strategic planning, and securing ongoing financial resources and funding.
Social Enterprise Toronto (SET) is a member led network of nonprofit sector social enterprises that employ business methods and practices to create employment or training opportunities for low income or marginalized individuals. SET is overseen by an elected Steering Committee and is trusteed by the Canadian CED Network (CCEDNet).
The Network Coordinator’s work is directed by the Steering Committee. Primary communication is through the appointed liaison with regular communication to the entire committee
FUNCTION: To coordinate network activity in accordance with SET’s mission to grow social purpose enterprise in the GTA.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development and Communications
- Create new and maintain existing SET communications, social media, web and print materials required for network and project activities
- Develop and implement successful communication strategies promoting social enterprise and highlighting SET members for business development
- Effectively communicate SET’s mission and project goals to multiple stakeholder audiences while seeking strategic partnerships and opportunities
- Work with the Toronto Enterprise Fund to align SET and the Social Purchasing Project activities so that they are mutually supportive
- Plan and organize and engage members in strategic planning activities to develop a road map for the network’s role and function
- With support from the Steering Committee, identify and pursue viable funding opportunities for ongoing sustainability and strategic interests
Research
- Effectively carry out identified community based research projects including all required literature scans, interviews, surveys, and focus groups
- With support from the Steering Committee and other SET members, analyze and document findings, learning, conclusions and recommendations
- Prepare, disseminate and promote regular reports, final reports and executive summaries to reach as broad an audience as possible using a range of social media including blog posts.
- Engage SET members and the GTA social enterprise sector, supporters, partners, and allies in the research, analysis and dissemination
Member Services
- Develop and maintain systems and processes to support the recruitment and expansion of SET membership base
- Assist with outreach to promote, recruit, welcome and orient new members to SET
- Process all new member applications ensuring enterprises meet membership criteria
- Research, plan and organize networking events and professional development opportunities that meet member needs
- Support and encourage member-to-member purchasing opportunities
Administration & Reporting
- With the support of the Steering Committee Co-Chairs, prepare and submit all required funding reports and applications including narrative and financial components.
- Monitor and document network outcomes and impacts
- Maintain a strong collaborative working relationship with SET’s financial trustee and the appointed liaison
- Ensure effective financial administration of all network activities including accounts payable/receivable, membership fees, funding, and in-kinds contributions, providing all the necessary documentation to the financial trustee
- Respond to requests for information and make public presentations about the network and it’s activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong business acumen, highly developed analytical skills with ability to conduct research and use independent judgement to problem solve and assess new opportunities
- Highly developed communications expertise including social media, web, marketing and branding expertise
- Sound knowledge of the social enterprise sector in the GTHA
- Sound knowledge of member based network building
- Strong relationship building and relationship management skills, able to establish positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within, as well as outside the organization
- Strong time management skills and must be able to work in a fast paced environment
- Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
- Proven ability to take initiative and carry projects to completion with minimum supervision
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and constituent service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse populations and multiple stakeholders
- Excellent attention to detail and proven track record of accuracy
- Relevant university or college certification or equivalent experience
- Grant writing and community-based research experience strongly a definite asset
