Northern Development Advisor - Transportation

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

  • provide advisory and consultative services to public and private sector clients to develop/establish infrastructure projects
  • analyze and evaluate transportation programs and other sector infrastructure policies and initiatives
  • promote, market and deliver government programs by conducting workshops, preparing educational materials and program guidelines
  • evaluate program applications and track submissions and related material
  • manage projects and undertake research and analysis
  • consult with senior officials, other governments including federal, regional, municipal, and First Nations to identify constraints and opportunities affecting economic development
  • liaise with partner ministries and other public and private sector clients on matters of policy development for infrastructure funding initiatives
  • prepare briefing materials, reports, presentations and responses for senior officials
  • represent the ministry on steering committees, inter-ministerial task forces and meetings

How do I qualify?

Specialized knowledge:

  • You have knowledge of economic theory, principles and practices.
  • You have knowledge of current and emerging micro and macro-economic theories and principles, and econometrics.
  • You have experience conducting cost-benefit analysis as well as knowledge of economic/business climate assessment techniques.
  • You have knowledge of funding approval processes and procedures as well as financial and accounting principles and practices.
  • You have an understanding of government priorities and policies related to the transportation sector.

Research, analysis and decision-making skills:

  • You have experience conducting economic and statistical research and analysis and monitoring economic trends and principles to provide input and support into the development of policy.
  • You have excellent research and investigative skills to conduct specialized research, interpret data and analyze findings.
  • You have experience developing recommendations and reports.
  • You are able to make decisions regarding information provided to clients individually or in groups.
  • You are skilled at identifying options and preparing recommendations for the transportation sector.

Communication and people skills:

  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills to provide and exchange information, make presentations, chair meetings and communicate with clients to resolve problems, as well as compose letters and prepare technical reports.
  • Your interpersonal and negotiation skills are excellent to assist in negotiating contracts and partnership service level agreements.
  • You have good leadership skills to lead activities with stakeholders and other ministry staff.

Planning, coordinating and organizational skills:

  • You have strong project planning and program delivery skills.
  • You have exceptional organizational skills to coordinate concurrent projects and work with consultants and to gather, organize, consolidate, interpret and assess the implications/significance for the sector.
  • You are skilled in organizing and prioritizing your own workload to ensure assignments are completed within established timeframes.

Other important skills:

  • You have project team leadership experience managing project team performance, resource requirements, deadlines and stakeholder relationships.
  • You have experience operating a computer and a variety of word processing, email, spreadsheet, database and presentation software to prepare databases and written reports, spreadsheets, presentation packages and correspondence.

Note: You must have the ability to travel to remote communities.

Salary Range: $1,356.49 - $1,731.39 per week
