CCPA Releases 2018 Alternative Federal Budget: Getting There 2018 Alternative Federal Budget: Getting There

The 2018 Alternative Federal Budget delivers a roadmap to where the country could be on the eve of the next federal election, if the government moves forward with bold action to deliver a progressive economic plan that leaves no one behind. If implemented the budget will reduce income inequality, lift close to a million people out of poverty, close unfair and expensive tax loopholes, and create 600,000 jobs while locking in the unemployment rate in the five per cent range.

The Honourable Jean‑Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, has announced the release of the What We Heard report, a summary of the feedback gathered during the Poverty Reduction Strategy engagement process.

Community Energy Capacity Building ProgramCommunity Energy Capacity Building Program

Energy Efficiency Alberta has opened its Community Energy Capacity Building Program to provide funding for capacity building projects that support community-scale renewable energy generation across Alberta. Projects with activities focused on community energy development could include but are not limited to renewable energy project feasibility studies, business case development, webinars and training.

Deadline for applications is March 12th, 2018.

CCEDNet-Manitoba policy workshop On Wednesday, November 22, the City of Winnipeg unveiled its 2018 Budget. Most of CCEDNet Manitoba's policy priorities for the City of Winnipeg are administrative (such as a social procurement or living wage policy), so they don't get clearly reflected in budget. However, crucial issues for communities related to our policy priorities are directly affected by this budget.

Thriving for All: Lower Columbia Poverty Reduction PlanThriving for All: Lower Columbia Poverty Reduction Plan is the culmination of a 5 year process involving conducting baseline research, workshops, and consulting with local governments, health, education, and social service providers, other provincial working groups, and local stakeholders (those who have experienced living in poverty). The eighteen recommendations in the plan fall into five broad themes: housing, food security, social, health and community services, learning and development, and a vibrant and inclusive economy.

The Pay-for-Success Opportunity: From Activities to Outcomes

The Pay-for-Success OpportunityThis paper defines pay-for-success, discusses the promises and cautions of pay-for-success, and sketches the close relation between the difficulties that bedevil pay-for-success and those that hinder program evaluation writ large, and raises a few problems that governments must manage if they wish to foster pay-for-success. The paper relies heavily on pay-for-success examples in which the service provider borrows money to run its program and pays the lender back if the program hits its outcome targets (an arrangement known as a social impact bond).
