About the Position
Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking for a Community Liaison. This is a full time position.
The Community Liaison person will be responsible for day-to-day communication with the Spence community, City of Winnipeg and other partners and stakeholders. The Community Liaison person works closely with the Executive Director as well as the Youth Programming Coordinator and staff.
We are looking for someone who has the ability skills to update the website and publish the monthly newsletter. The ideal candidate has a mix of community experience and communications experience.
Primary responsibilities include:
Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre (MERC) space management including:
- Ensuring spaces are available and ready for booking to user groups, and booking process is properly communicated with the City of Winnipeg.
- Ensuring that maintenance issues are dealt with promptly by the appropriate staff.
- Opening the building to the public in the morning
Office management including:
- Maintaining the smooth operation of the front offices at the MERC
- Helping community members use the computers, fax machine, photocopier;
- Purchasing office supplies for SNA staff as required, and according to procedures;
- Sorting and ensuring the delivery of incoming mail
Communications including:
- Ensuring a warm welcome to all who enter the MERC, and referring phone and email communications in a professional and efficient manner to the appropriate staff.
- Coordinating, producing, and ensuring delivery of the monthly SNA newsletter in hard copy and to our list serve, and coordinating fundraising to support the newsletter and website.
- The employee supports inter office communication, and ensure strong communication between City of Winnipeg workers and SNA workers at the MERC.
- Updating the SNA website
- Producing and ensuring timely delivery of Board package to the concerned board members on a monthly basis.
- Assist in organizing staff meeting, taking notes of the meeting, and preparation and circulation of the minutes
- Post community notices/job listings and maintain community bulletin board.
MERC Integrated team resource work including:
- Organizing monthly meetings, circulating agendas and minutes, and keeping records of meetings and meeting documents.
Community Events:
- Organizing community events alone and in partnership with other SNA staff and volunteers- for example the annual Spring Clean Up.
Other job duties as assigned.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience coordinating community programs and events
- Experience dealing with community members of diverse interests and ethnicity
- Education or training in liaising, office administration, communication and community programming.
- Ability to provide clear direction and feed back to incoming community members
- In-depth understanding of inner city communities and the issues faced by the Spence community
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Enjoy team work and be willing to assist other staff/volunteers/community members
- Ability to provide a current criminal record check and child registry checks
- Ability to work flexibly when needed
- Experience in management of crisis situations will be considered an asset
Hours and remuneration:
The Employee agrees to fulfill a 32 hour work/ week.
SNA agrees to pay @$11 /hr for a 32 hour work/ week on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and employer contributions will be paid. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked (i.e., evenings and weekends) However, regular hours will be between 9 am and 3 pm Monday to Friday.
