Youth Programs Supervisor

Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking for a Youth Program Supervisor for children and youth programming run out of the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre. This is a full time position (37.5 hours a week).

Job Description:

The Youth Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing afterschool programs, including the planning and implementation of the Youth Drop-In program. This person will also be responsible for scheduling and supervising all youth staff, as well as working alongside the Newcomer Outreach Worker and the Youth Manager to ensure that youth programming is successful.

Main job duties include:

  • Plan activities for youth
  • Organize and supervise staff
  • Manage youth behaviour and discipline
  • Deal with crisis/incidents
  • Manage budget/purchase materials for programming
  • Run the Youth Committee
  • Coordinate Homework Club, Junior Staff program, volunteers and transportation within programming

The applicant:

  • Must have experience organizing programming for 13-18 year-olds
  • Must have experience working with inner-city youth
  • Must have education or training in coaching, teaching or recreational programming
  • Must be able to provide clear direction and feed back to volunteers, youth participants and Green Team youth assistants
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of inner-city communities and the issues facing youth
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be self-motivated
  • Must enjoy teamwork and be willing to assist other youth program leaders
  • Must be able to provide current Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks
  • Must be able to work afternoons/evenings
  • Current First aid and CPR training are assets
  • Class 4 Driver’s License an asset
  • Experience in coaching sports or supervisory experiences are assets
  • Creativity and ambition an asset

Compensation: 
Wage will be determined according to relevant experience ($16-$18)
