DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organisation. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities:

Objectives: To manage the Kid’s Garden program based at the DMSMCA Orioles Community Gardens

Tasks will include:

  • Coordinating the Kids’ Garden program, with kids from our drop-in program as well as working with a class at Wellington School (grade 5) – including workshop and outing organising;
  • Supervising seeding, planting, transplanting, weeding, watering, harvesting, etc.;
  • Planning and supervision end of season “Kids’ Harvest Meal’ – cooking, etc.;
  • Coordinating and working with kids to paint boxes and various mural for the garden;
  • Assisting with overall maintenance of community gardens.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in working with children and youth
  • Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of organic gardening
  • Ability to do physical labour all day
  • Background in community based planning and community initiatives implementation;
  • Event planning and organizing;
  • Project Management;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews, West Central area and inner city issues
  • Experience with community gardening
  • Knowledge of CED principles.
  • Valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle
  • Ability to speak another language

Other Information:

  • Must be between the ages 16-24.

Wage:
$11 / hour

Hours of Work:
Up to 30 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a 12 week term position.

Start Date:
To start immediately.
