About the Position
The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – Manitoba is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to research and develop a communications strategy and implementation plan. This position is funded by the Government of Canada. Applicants must currently be between the ages of 15 and 30, attending university or college full-time, and be returning to school in the fall of 2011.
Responsibilities include
- Work with the CCPA-MB to identify goals and objectives for communications.
- Research appropriate models and tools.
- Analyse current CCPA opportunities and strengths, as well as gaps in current communications.
- Develop a communications strategy that builds on existing CCPA strengths and that addresses gaps in current practices.
- Set up and implement one aspect of strategy (e.g. blog).
- Document work completed so to ensure that the CCPA can implement and build on this work.
Qualifications
- Experience or training in communications, including knowledge of social networking and online communications
- Strong research and writing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Dedicated to social and economic justice, including community development and inner city issues
- Outstanding attention to detail and inter-personal skills.
Experience working with a non-profit organization is desirable, and the successful candidate should share a commitment to CCPA’s social justice mandate. The person hired for the position should feel comfortable working in a small office with a team environment that requires flexibility.

Terms of Employment
Dates: June 6 – August 12, 2011 (10 weeks, 35 hours per week)
Rate of Pay: ($15/hour, plus vacation pay)
