About LITE
Local Investment Toward Employment (LITE) is a non-profit granting organization that supports community economic development (CED) initiatives that build capacity and provide jobs in Winnipeg's inner city.
Qualifications
- Enrolled as a student (high school, college or University) over the past year
- Planning to return as a student in the next year
- Must be between the ages of 15 & 30
- Organized with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Strong interpersonal skills including written, oral and public speaking and networking
- Competent with Microsoft Office and Excel
- Able to work flexible hours some weeks
- Committed to CED principles and social and economic justice
- Experience planning events and coordinating public relations activities would be an asset
- Experience working with a volunteer board and committees would be an asset
- Experience with Winnipeg’s CED organizations and projects an asset
Major Responsibilities
- Assist with the coordination of LITE’s Annual General Meeting on June 22nd
- Provide public relations support to the Social Purchasing Portal Coordinator
- Monitor and update LITE’s and Social Purchasing Portal’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter)
- Assist with preliminary media related tasks for LITE’s upcoming Pancake Breakfast
- Assist with recruiting volunteers for upcoming events and committees
- Promote LITE’s upcoming events to radio, newspapers, television stations
- Conduct and assist with some Social Purchasing Portal and general LITE presentations at churches,
schools, and workplaces - Contact past banner recipients and coordinate logistics if necessary
- Assist with donor relations tasks
- Interview partner organizations and write stories for upcoming fall e-newsletter
The Events and Communications Assistant will report to LITE’s Executive Director.
Conditions: This is a 10 week term position at 30 hrs per week, beginning June 20th and ending August 26th, 2011. Please note that this position could lead to a part-time position in the fall.
Wage: Between $13 and $14 per hour based on experience.
