About the Position
The West Central women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is seeking an Assistant Drop-In Coordinator to help the Drop-in Coordinator create a safe, welcoming atmosphere while also directing visitors to needed resources. This is done using an empowerment and harm reduction philosophy.
Starting: December 12, 2011
Wage: $12-$13/hr 30 hours/week
Term: 1 year contract
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responding to public enquiries, provide resource referral and general support to visitors and callers
- Create a welcoming atmosphere in the Drop-In, including mediating conflict and calming tensions
- Ensure Drop-In area is organized and tidy, including updating the postings and calendar boards
- Help Coordinate drop-in services including laundry, shower and computer usage
- Coordinate delivery, serving, and clean-up of food for the drop-in
- Promote Centre activities with visitors, callers, and outreach
- Assist with the coordination of community events, celebrations and activities
Qualifications
- Accessible to and supportive of community women
- Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict management skills with the ability to provide informal mediation, support and mentorship
- Basic computer skills, including Excel
- Ability to be welcoming and professional with visitors and telephone inquiries
- Ability to work as a team and follow direction for co-worker (Drop In Coordinator)
- Awareness and sensitivity to issues of marginalization (sexism, racism, classism) and cultural diversity
- A strong understanding of the West Central community
Individuals must be currently unemployed and receiving provincial Employment and Income Assistance benefits. Aboriginal, Newcomer and West Central community women are encouraged to apply.
