Internship Description

One intern will be recruited for this Ecological Gardening Internship and take residence at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre in Clearwater, MB for Summer 2012. Harvest Moon will provide the intern with guidance, support, access to the HMS library, a community, a collaborative work plan and accommodations.

The purpose of this internship is twofold. First, this is a opportunity for interns interested in learning about ecological gardening principles, permaculture, regenerative landscape design and community-building. The intern will work with a community of farmers, gardeners and permaculture practitioners over the summer to keep gardens on the Harvest Moon Permaculture Demonstration Site. Second, the intern will provide an important role as garden manager at the HM Centre, taking a lead on choosing plant selection, planting, seeding, maintenance, harvest and sale of produce from the garden(s).

Terms of the Internship

This is an unpaid internship however there may be opportunities for the intern to take on paid project-based contracts throughout the summer depending on interest and qualifications (for example to manage a workshop).

The successful internship will have free room and the liberty of eating (at no costs) from the gardens. The intern will also have access to free or subsidized training opportunities as they arise. The intern must participate in a planning meeting (the Harvest Moon spring design charrette) and, in April, begin planning for seeding/planting.

Ideally, the intern would take residence at the HM Learning Centre starting in April or May 2012 and stay through to the end of Harvest Season (September). In addition to developing and maintaining gardens at the centre, the intern will also be responsible for helping to host educational workshops and tours of the gardens throughout the summer.

This is the first year that this particular internship is being offered and the intern should be interested and able to help work with HMS coordinators to co-develop the internship program
