About the DMSMCA & WBDC:
Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews Community Association (DMSMCA) and the West Broadway Development Corporation (WBDC) are non-profit community renewal organizations. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre, St. Matthews and West Broadway neighbourhoods.
Main Job duties:
- Promote composting in the Daniel McIntyre, St Matthews and West Broadway neighbourhoods through awareness raising, workshops & business contact
- Maintain and develop composting programme with ten area businesses
- Collect waste twice weekly, record amount of waste collected from each business Troubleshoot with businesses, make regular improvements to the program Maintain community compost sites at a high level
- Prepare compost/leaf drop off sites for the year, support maintenance, and promote neighbourhood use throughout the year
- Develop a pilot apartment composting program in West Broadway
- Make finished compost available to local gardeners
- Evaluate the program, develop a plan for program continuance
Assets:
- Good knowledge of the composting process o Experience working with businesses
- Experience with waste audits o Experience with community programming/organizing
- Demonstrated knowledge of inner city issues and familiarity with the Daniel McIntyre/ St. Matthews and West Broadway areas o Experience with power tools and construction would be an asset o Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Can work individually as well as cooperatively, inclusively and effectively with others
- Strong public speaking and workshop facilitation skills
Wage: $17/hr Hours of Work: Up to 30 hours/week.
