Organization & Program Description

Eva’s Initiatives is an innovative organization devoted to the provision of services for homeless youth. Eva’s Initiatives operates Eva’s Place, Eva’s Satellite and Eva’s Phoenix. Eva’s Phoenix integrates transitional housing with employment & training opportunities for homeless youth. We are currently looking to add to our vibrant staff team by filling the following position:

A key role at Eva’s Phoenix, the Housing Manager has three main responsibility areas. First, to provide leadership such that the housing team has the coaching, supervision and core competencies required for a high-level of performance. Second, is managing the development, implementation and evaluation of high performance programs that help Phoenix youth develop paths to self-sufficient and healthy lives. Third, is responsibility for effective collaboration with other departments at Phoenix, at Eva’s, and with community partners. The position works in a unionized shelter environment with its associated stresses, and with youth who may at-times be in crisis and may demonstrate related behaviours. Staff will at all times be responsible for following safe work practices for their own safety and the safety of other staff and clients.

Position Summary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Social Work or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years social service management experience, including supervision of front-line staff and working with high needs clients with systemic barriers;
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues related to youth homelessness and the barriers they face seeking long-term employment and housing opportunities;
  • Knowledge and expertise related to homelessness; hostel standards; addictions, social housing; alternative, supportive and private sector housing; income security; mental health, etc.
  • A general knowledge of government legislation in the areas of labour, employment and human rights, Child and Family Services Act, Residential Tenancies Act, mental health legislation and other relevant legislation geared towards shelter standards;
  • Demonstrated experience in social service program development, implementation and evaluation;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing program budgets, and managing accountability with funders;
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of collaboration in the social service sector
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong level of computer literacy MS Word, Excel and Outlook; Experience with Shelter Management Information System (SMIS) an asset;
  • Experience in a management position in a unionized setting.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings required. Will share on-call responsibilities.
