About LITE:

Local Investment Toward Employment (LITE) is a non-profit granting organization that
supports community economic development (CED) initiatives that build capacity and provide
jobs in Winnipeg’s inner city. 

About the Position:

The Communications Intern will be responsible for implementing the external communications
strategy set by LITE’s Development Committee for the coming year.

The responsibilities of the communications intern will include drafting, editing, and distributing
press releases and marketing materials, engaging outside media outlets to print or broadcast
information on behalf of LITE, presenting information to the media and donor constituencies and
ensuring successful promotion of LITE’s brand, programs, upcoming events, as well as other
communications tasks assigned by the Executive Director. This position also includes the creation
of community or public awareness of the organization through social media, conducting
presentations, as well as by attending events that represent the organization's interests. 

The Communications Intern will report to LITE’s Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Must be between the ages of 15 & 30
  • Must not be returning to school full time the following year
  • University degree or college diploma in a related field
  • Well organized with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Team player with positive attitude
  • Ability to exercise initiative
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal skills including written, verbal and ability to network
  • Computer literacy (competent with Microsoft Office and social media programs)
  • Able to work flexible hours some weeks
  • Committed to social and economic justice
  • Experience with Winnipeg’s CED organizations and projects an asset
