About the Position:
Reporting to the Market Community Relations Manager, the successful applicant will work with the other project partners, additional project staff, volunteers, and general public. The successful applicant will assist the planning team in recruiting sponsors for special events such as the Farmers Feast, and special events for the market. The position is 35 hours per week, pending available funding, Tuesday to Saturday, $11- $14/hr depending on experience.
Job Description
- Coordinate and document event planning committee meetings
- Coordinate event logistics
- Develop promotional materials and promote the event
- Develop and coordinate event registrations
- Coordinate food and booths
- Coordinate mailings and electronic communication
- Prepare funder recognition signage
- Coordinate volunteers
- Develop sponsorship packages and solicit sponsors
- Assist with other projects and tasks when required
The successful applicant will be/have:
- Proven experience organizing community events
- Highly organized with proven attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience working with sponsors and fundraising
- Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
- High level of computer knowledge, Word and Excel
- Be self motivated and a team player
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines
- Able to work flexible hours
- Able to exercise independent judgment
- Ability to work well on dynamic, busy and time sensitive projects
- Volunteer management experience is considered an asset
- An interest in and knowledge of farmers markets and local food is considered an asset
Participants MUST also meet the following the criteria to be qualified for this position:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of placement;
- not receiving Employment Insurance benefits;
- a graduate of a post-secondary education program;
- be unemployed; or underemployed (working 20 hours or less on a regular basis); or working in a job that does not match your area of educational study;
- out of school;
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred;
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
- willing to complete a Police Records Check.
