Social Enterprise Research and Development Co-ordinators
The Canadian Community Economic Development (CED) Network is a practitioner-based, membership-driven organization. Its mission is to help CED organizations across Canada strengthen their communities and find solutions to local problems. The Network is recruiting 2 dynamic, outgoing professionals to support social enterprise research and development based at our regional office in Toronto, Ontario.

INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
This position is provided in partnership with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada as part of the CED Work Experience Program, CreateAction. This internship program is designed to assist post-graduate youth make the transition into the world of work.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection;
- Be a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations;
- Be out-of-school;
- Be a post-secondary college or university graduate;
- Not be receiving Employment Insurance benefits;
- Can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed);
- Can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal;
- Have not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement.
Supported by the Canadian CED Network Program Director in Ontario, the Social Enterprise Research and Development Co-ordinators will have 5 primary areas of work.
• Finalize the social enterprise contact list for Ontario enterprises
• Email the survey to social enterprise managers encouraging online completion
• Conduct phone interviews with social enterprise managers across Ontario
• Track all responses and the percentage of respondents in each sector
Work closely with all Canadian CED Network staff, members, partners and stakeholders to:
• Develop regional newsletters
• Update the Canadian CED Network’s Ontario website
• Provide administrative support, logistics and communications to the Program Director
• Manage office filing systems (paper and electronic)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in a related field of study
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and French
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience and education in business development an asset (e.g. MBA or equivalent)
- Experience working in non-profits or community-based organisations
- Experience working in an office environment
- Knowledge of community economic development theory and practice
- Adaptable to a new fast-paced work environment
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hourly wage of $18.00/ hr
- Position based in Toronto
- 26 week contract from July to December 2012
- Requires extensive computer use
- 37.5 hours per week - involves overtime work at peak periods
- Some travel may be required
