Literacy Partners of Manitoba (LPM), a non-profit organization, is committed to supporting learners and practitioners in their efforts to improve Literacy and Essential Skills in Manitoba, and raising the awareness of the importance of Literacy and Essential Skills with stakeholders and partners.
The Aboriginal Literacy Coordinator will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of literacy and essentials skills.
The Aboriginal Literacy Coordinator will:
- Work to aid in the delivery of Literacy Partners of Manitoba Aboriginal Vision and Strategy – created by participants of the first Aboriginal Literacy Symposium in 2011.
- Work in partnership with Literacy Partners of Manitoba and the Aboriginal Literacy Symposium committee to deliver the Aboriginal Literacy Symposium gathering in November 2012.
- Network with agencies, organizations and establish liaisons and partnerships to increase awareness of literacy and essential skills and LPM’s Aboriginal Vision and Strategy.
Qualifications:
1. Secondary education preferably experience in adult education
2. Experience in developing cultural programming, organizing meetings and creating forums.
3. Strong background, knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal communities
4. Awareness of First Nations & Metis cultures and languages
5. Demonstrated organizational skills with an ability to identify, develop and coordinate events related to the Aboriginal Literacy Vision and Strategy
6. Experience in proposal writing and program planning, knowledge of research and/or research skills, collecting data would be considered an asset,
7. Understanding of literacy and essential skills and implementation of such,
8. Excellent oral and written communications skills – knowledge of plain language attributes would be considered an asset.
9. Extensive facilitation experience, consultation skills and an ability to create strong community collaborations and partnerships,
10. Good working knowledge of computer skills,
11. Ability to work on your own,
12. Must have a valid Manitoba’s Driver’s license, car (travel allowance provided), and
13. Must be willing to travel across Manitoba.
Salary & Hours:
This position is a contract position beginning September 4th 2012 and ending June 21, 2013.
The salary is $20/hour for 28 hours/ week.
