The Momentum Project Coordinator will be responsible for bringing women and community partners together to develop a community plan to promote women’s economic security and prosperity in Portage la Prairie and area. The Coordinator will work closely with the PCRC Executive Director and a Working Group of women and community stakeholders.
This is a full-time position at 37.5 hrs/week for a one year term until August 2012. The wage is $18/hour.

Responsibilities:

Creation of a community plan on economic security in Portage la Prairie by: 

o Reviewing existing research

o Arranging interviews and focus groups with women and community stakeholders

o Arranging community meetings to set priorities and identify strategies to address barriers to economic security

o Writing a community plan based on consultation findings and community priorities

o Writing reports to the funder including a gender based analysis of findings

Building the capacity of women to take on leadership roles in the project

o Arranging for training of women in facilitation and leadership

o Supervising 4-6 casual employees conducting interviews and focus groups

o Supporting women in identifying and addressing barriers such as childcare and transportation

Creating community partnerships to implement the community plan

Regularly communicating with an Advisory Committee, stakeholders and public on progress of the project

Qualifications

o Post secondary education or previous experience in community development related field.

o Ability to develop rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds

o Proven verbal and written communication skills including public presentations and reports

o Knowledge of qualitative research methods (interviews, focus groups, storytelling)

o Knowledge of aboriginal culture an asset

o Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment

o Acceptable criminal record check and child abuse record check

o Preference given to residents of Portage la Prairie and area
