About the Our Food Our Health Our Culture
The Our Food Our Health Our Culture project started with a one-year pilot project in 2011-2012. Food Matters Manitoba has now applied for more funding to continue this work in three communities: North End Winnipeg, Fox Lake First Nation/Gillam (northern Manitoba), La
Ronge/Lac La Ronge Indian Band/Air Ronge (northern Saskatchewan). In all of these project sites we are working closely with community partners to identify and implement programs. In the North End, Food Matters Manitoba will work closely with the North End Food Security
Network.
This project was funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Their goal is to achieve healthier weights in Canadian communities. To do this, we will help people reconnect with healthy cooking skills and get access to healthy foods – including healthy, traditional foods.
An important part of this project is evaluation and we need to demonstrate what we are learning about what works to support healthy eating. Evaluation will be a key component of the North End Coordinator’s role along with project implementation.
