POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the CEO and the technical direction and guidance of a Senior Development Officer, undertakes assignments related to economic development.
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates as a member of a project team.
2. Performs detailed analysis of economic development opportunities, prepares and implements related strategic and promotional plans.
3. Performs detailed analysis and work associated with the completion of research projects and participates in the completion of funding applications and feasibility studies.
4. Conducts discussions and negotiations with the private and public sectors regarding economic development opportunities.
5. Provides information to prospective entrepreneurs, agencies, and the community on matters relating to economic development opportunities.
6. Identifies and promotes improvement to and expansion of existing businesses or industries.
7. Completes projects jointly undertaken by the City and provincial or federal levels of government, or other partners, as assigned.
8. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
-  University degree in economics, business administration, or a related field; and
- Minimum two years’ economic or industrial development experience.
 
Skills/Abilities:
- An ability to work with minimal direction;
- Must have a demonstrated ability to work with entrepreneurs and be knowledgeable about the relevant provincial legislation regarding municipal economic development;
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team;
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills;
- Must be at a basic skill level in keyboarding, word processing and  spreadsheet software;
- Familiarity with markets and marketing, economic development opportunities, and dealing with confidential clients and materials.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- The use of a vehicle is required;
- Must have a valid driver’s licence;
- Working beyond normal working hours and out of town travel (by land and air) will be required from time to time.
