The Community Planning Council of Greater Victoria is recruiting a Sustainability Assistant on a twenty-five week work experience internship funded by the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada. The position, reporting to the Executive Director, will assist in the Council’s work to promote youth community economic development in the region.
Specific tasks include:
- Research, planning and support to the Council’s proposed Community Investment Fund, specifically community engagement for the project and work with CSPC staff and legal counsel to support the legal incorporation of the Fund
- Research, development and community engagement, and fund development for a Community Enterprise Hub for Greater Victoria that includes shared and central space for community and social enterprise, and; coordinated technical assistance to mentor and support the development of new, and sustainability of existing, community enterprises.
- Research, coordination and support to the Council’s Building Resilient Neighbourhoods program
- Support the creation and development of experiential and community based learning opportunities for young people in community economic development
We are looking for a creative individual with superior communication, research, writing skills, with some experience in community economic development. Under the terms of the funding applicants must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection;
- a post-secondary institute, college, university or CEGEP graduate;
- out of school;
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred;
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
- not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits;
- can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed);
- can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal; and
- has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement.
