Brandon Fruit Share is a new inovative community-based initiative in Brandon, Manitoba whose mission is to provide access to healthy food while reducing food waste. Fruit Share matches homeowners who have surplus fruit with volunteer pickers who pick the fruit and divide it between themselves, the homeowners and community non-profits such as food banks.
Brandon Fruit Share is hiring a Coordinator who will assist the Advisory Team in promoting Brandon Fruit Share throughout the community, recruiting homeowners and pickers, scheduling fruit picks, coordinating fruit preservation workshops and developing community partners. This is a term position starting as soon as possible until early September.
Applicants must:
- be a graduate of a post-secondary institution with a career focus in community economic development
- have excellent communication and organizational skills
- be able to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- have strong computer skills; database experience is an asset
Qualifications:
This internship is part of our CreateAction CED Work Experience Program. To meet the criteria for the CreateAction program, you must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection;
- a post-secondary institute, college, university or CEGEP graduate;
- out of school;
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred;
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
- not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits;
- able to demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed);
- able to demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal; and
- someone who has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement.
