Position Summary:

As part of the CreateAction Work Experience Program, organized by the Canadian CED Network with funding from Service Canada, the Community Development Analyst will work with the UWGSC Community Impact team to contribute to community development research, develop case and feasibility studies in Social Innovation/Enterprise, provide scheduling/event planning support for Community Impact activities, and consolidate data for community development, communications and planning purposes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Social Enterprise/Community Economic Development

  • Conduct feasibility study and market research work on social enterprise activities in Simcoe County
  • Develop case studies on local social enterprise ventures to provide lessons learned, engage the community in conversation, and develop social enterprise models that can be employed in Simcoe County
  • Investigate potential ways that CED/Social Enterprise models and principles could be used within immigrant and visible minority groups

Community Development Research

  • Gather and analyze data for community development research being conducted with regional partners
  • Conduct community mapping activities
  • Attend meetings with potential research partners
  • Produce reports and presentation backgrounders as requested

Event Planning & Scheduling

  • Assist in deliverables for collaborative Social Enterprise group including planning and implementation of Meet UPs in the region, booking coaching clinics, and investor/stakeholder planning meetings
  • Assist with Capacity Building Workshop scheduling and preparation
  • Help coordinate and attend Social Enterprise Practitioners Institutes

Youth Engagement

  • Provide input and help gather data for youth engagement plan for 2013-14
  • Attend youth engagement group meetings

As Member of the Community Impact Team

  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Community Impact on project and program status
  • Participate in cross-organizational activities as required
  • Attend weekly meetings, training and update reports through the Canadian CED Network

Applicant Requirements:

  • Completion of a post secondary degree or diploma
  • Currently underemployed or unemployed
  • Under 30 years of age as of April 1, 2013
  • Have not participated in a Career Focus program
  • Not currently in receipt of EI
  • Working knowledge in the non-profit sector, understanding of social service/community development sector

Qualifications:

  • Strong research, analytical and written communication skills
  • Results-oriented, hard-working, comfortable with a fast paced environment and ambiguity
  • Comfortable working with a variety of groups – social service agencies, governmental organizations, youth, and culturally diverse communities.
