The Cross-Cultural Counselor provides direct services to the participants who have been
impacted by crime, violence and community women of the Immigrant Women Association of
Manitoba, Inc (IWAM).
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services field
- Experience providing cross-cultural counseling and/or crisis counseling to women who have been impacted by crime, violence
- Experience in development and implementation of crime prevention strategies
- Experience in the development, organization, and facilitation of groups for women
- Experience working with immigrant /newcomer women or families from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Experience working in a community based setting in the Inner city of Winnipeg
- Non-judgemental and accepting attitude
- Basic computer and administrative skills
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check
- A valid driver’s licence and a vehicle is a requirement.
Responsibilities
- Provide cross-cultural individual therapeutic counseling to women impacted by crime, violence
- Develop and facilitate culturally sensitive therapeutic groups , workshops in the community on various topics
- Provide over the phone or in person drop/in crisis counseling to women as needed
- Provide information, referral and support on an individual basis
Job Status: Term Position Ending March 31, 2014 (potential for extension)
Part Time - 8 hours /week (possibility of increase)
