We are seeking a full-time Community Host to join our team to help set a welcoming, respectful, and safe tone for our building located at 580 Main Street. As a member of the bargaining unit Unifor Local 191, the ideal candidate will be available to work on a full-time basis (7:00 am – 3:15 pm, Monday to Friday) and will be able to start immediately.
Specifically, the Community Host will:
- Greet all visitors respectfully and provide information and referral.
- Participate in the development and management of organizational safety and security policies, procedures, and programs.
- Provide knowledge of both internal and external resources that can provide support to community guests that may be in need of services that UWW does not provide.
- Develop relationships with service providers and community resources in the immediate neighborhood.
- Maintain hospitable/welcoming appearance of main floor common areas.
- Manage the rental meeting space
- Achieve the transition of community host activities between full time and part-time/ casual community hosts.
- Manage the use of the visitor and staff parking lots.
- Participate in regular department or team meetings.
- Assist others in the organization by completing other duties as assigned.
As the successful candidate, you will have a demonstrated ability to work respectfully with a diverse range of individuals. You will also possess the following:
- Grade 12 education or equivalency.
- Minimum of five years experience working with the public, preferably as a security guard or in a similar capacity.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Current certificate in Emergency First Aid/CPR.
- Certificate in non-violent crisis intervention or conflict resolution.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to take initiative and demonstrate imagination and resourcefulness.
- Copies of a criminal record check and a provincial child abuse registry check, both conducted within the last year.
