Position Overview
 
Reporting directly to the Manager Community & Consultation as part of the Community Consultation Regulatory Affairs team (CCRA), the Economic and Community Development Advisor will be responsible for developing a Stakeholder Engagement strategy and executing a Business Development plan. The Economic and Community Development Advisor will be located in the Long Lake Administration Building with regular travel required within the region.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
 
  • Contribute to and execute a Stakeholder Engagement Strategy as it relates to Business Development and Nexen Oilsands Operations;
  • Execute a Business Development Plan;
  • Work collaboratively with CCRA Team, Construction,  Environment, Operations and Resource Development Teams;
  • Participate in the development of internal and external communications materials
  • Support Community Consultation Team in working with community stakeholder groups;
  • Represent Nexen Oilsands on regional committees, taking a lead role when appropriate. i.e. local Business Incubators, NAABA; Willow Lake Traffic Working Group, Willow Lake Community Association;
  • Understand and communicate local business capacity and work with internal stakeholders to utilize local business and services when appropriate.
  • Work with internal departments to align project management, procurement and contracts with regulatory commitments and agreements;
  • Partner with key internal stakeholders across all lines of business in the execution of business capacity initiatives.
  • Develop relationships and mentor local and local aboriginal business on Nexen’s contract and procurement processes and requirements.
  • Represent Nexen Oilsands operations as it relates to dealing with community issues and concerns (i.e. Environmental, Traffic).
  • Facilitate consultation with stakeholders as it relates to Nexen Oilsands Operations. Preparing materials for internal approval process including presentations and executive summaries;
  • Document activities on Stakeholder Documentation Program.

Note
 
Travel will be required, as our CCRA team provides service to Aboriginal clients in rural areas and to our corporate office in Calgary.  There will also be requirements for flexibility in your work schedule as some projects and meetings will require work to be completed outside of regular office hours.
 
 
Education/Experience
 
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline is preferred (equivalent experience may be substituted);
  • Five years’ experience working within a community development, community relations and consultation environment;
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups;
  • Oil and gas or plant operations back ground is an asset.
