The growing complexity of ongoing planning issues requires a new kind of response that allows for participatory planning at the local level working from a community vision that approaches development in a holistic manner.

Community Planning Boards may be a mechanism to provide a conduit between the community and city government. Manhattan has 59 Community Planning Boards operating with input from close to 3,000 residents. How might this model inform a pilot project in Toronto? Craig Hammerman has been working for over 20 years as the District Manager of Brooklyn Community Board 6 a progressive and innovative Board that has worked hard to establish a strong position of advocacy for its residents.
