The Coady International Institute is a world-class leader in community-based, citizen-driven development education. In collaboration with partners in Canada and the global South, the Institute is committed to reducing poverty and transforming societies by strengthening local economies, building resilient communities, and promoting accountable democracies. Women’s leadership is a strong focus for the Coady Institute’s work, and gender and power analysis is important in all of its programs. In recognition of its firm commitment to advancing women’s social, political and economic empowerment, the Coady Institute launched the International Centre for Women’s Leadership in 2011. The Centre currently manages five flagship women’s leadership programs benefitting women in Canada and abroad, with other programs under development. These programs operate both from the Coady Institute facilities in Canada as well as in developing countries. The Centre is also engaged in a number of research initiatives which enhance the curriculum as well as contribute to policy and practice in respective fields. As a Women’s Leadership and Gender Specialist, the successful candidate will play a key curriculum development, research and teaching role and will have:
Requirements:
- Five plus years experience and expertise related to gender analysis and women’s leadership. Experience in women’s economic empowerment is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with adult education methodologies, facilitation and building new knowledge through research initiatives;
- Knowledge and experience working with international programs. Additional experience in the Canadian context is also highly desirable;
- A Master’s degree in a related area of study or equivalent;
- Capacity for networking and managing collaborative partnerships;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and organizational skills;
- Strong research, analytical and writing skills;
- Ability to work independently while ensuring that outcomes are met;
- Ability to travel internationally;
- Strong proficiency in oral and written French language would be an asset in this position.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate educational programs, develop curricula and conduct research initiatives on women’s leadership/empowerment, gender and power analysis;
- Manage the Global Change Leaders program–a seven-week certificate program aimed at building leadership capacities of emerging women leaders from the global south;
- Contribute to donor reports as required;
- Contribute to the life of Coady and Coady programs as a mentor, advisor and colleague.
This position is a full time permanent position located at the Coady International Institute on the campus of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, with potential for travel within North America and overseas. The position is subject to the terms and conditions of the AUT Collective Agreement. Rank and Salary will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications and experience.
