Knucwentwécw Development Corporation (KDC) is the “business arm” of the Skeetchestn Indian Band and has the responsibility for developing business opportunities that build an economic base in the Skeetchestn Traditional Territory. Its mission is to create and preserve a vibrant economic climate, sustainable business and employment opportunities, a skilled and confident population with the capacity and entrepreneurial spirit to take advantage of the business and employment opportunities created, and ultimately, advancing the economic, social and culture interests of the Skeetchestn Band members and Community members.
Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide leadership and management for all KDC divisions and be a critical link across Skeetchestn Indian Band and business development opportunities. The Executive Director has the overall responsibility for management of day-to-day KDC operations, and ensuring management oversight of multiple KDC subsidiary companies. Current businesses include: Gas station with convenience store and restaurant, Gravel pit and soon to be added ranch business. Working aside the Chief Financial Officer and with the Board, the Executive Director will refine and implement the strategic growth plan of Skeetchestn Indian Band’s Development Corporation (KDC), spur economic activity in the community, while delivering results on a day-to-day basis; maintain existing business performance, develop business plans and budgets for all new enterprises. In addition, the successful candidate will oversee recruitment and contracting; leading and monitoring the performance of KDC staff and contracted human resources; and the planning, managing and controlling its financial and physical resources. The incumbent is also expected to be the main point of contact for all business opportunities on Skeetchestn Indian Band land and contribute significantly to the strategic direction of KDC’s investment portfoliowhile being responsible for the development and implementation of a relevant economic marketing strategy.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
• Balancing internal management with external leadership.
• Fostering an environment of accountability, excellence, collaboration, and innovation among the staff.
• Demonstrating fiscal responsibility; budgets, financial statements, bank statements, annual reports.
• Coordinating KDC’s operating plans, budgets, policies and procedures.
• Ensuring that lines of communication within KDC’s entities and between KDC and SIB are well-defined and followed.
• Identifying organizational structures, processes, and procedures that would benefit from review and modification to improve the corporation’s workflow, design and implement plans to do so.
• Ensuring that administrative/financial processes and staffing are appropriate for KDC’s needs.
• Prospecting for new funding, grants opportunities and reporting to funding sources.
• Planning and participating in community consultation sessions.
• Identifying and promoting improvements to and expansion of existing businesses and industry.
• Identifying and promoting new business and or industrial opportunities.
• Preparing and disseminating information regarding the availability of land, buildings and other facilities conducive to the promotion of business and industry.
• Maintaining active contacts with the relevant agencies at all levels of governments.
• Participating in regional economic planning activities as required.
• Collaborating with other First Nations organisations.
• Working with Skeetchestn Administration to ensure “win win for all”.
• Publishing, marketing information; web site and promotional literature.
Educational Requirements:
Solid educational background: undergraduate degree required; MBA or similar advanced degree preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of First Nations communities, culture and issues are essential.
Acumen in management excellence.
Experience with grant and proposal writing, request for proposals and business proposals.
Must undergo a Criminal Record check.

Salary:
The Executive Director position has a six month probationary period. This is a full-time permanent position, based on 40 hours per week. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package: Group Pension Plan and Extended Health Benefits will commence after 3 months.
