N.E.E.D.S. Inc. is pleased to invite applications for the following position:
INTRO Program Facilitator / Instructor (full time, 35 hrs/wk)
The INTRO Program provides support to newly arrived refugee youth (ages 6-18) and their families during their first year in Canada. This is done through orientation workshops, school visits, mentorship and family support.
INTRO Program Facilitator/Instructor Responsibilities:
- Facilitating orientation curriculum to newly arrived newcomer children and youth
- Completing language and academic assessments (for clients aged 6 to 18)
- Assisting in youth’s transition into the Canadian education system and integration into Canadian society.
- Developing relationships with newcomer children and youth and their families
- Classroom and behaviour management
- Assisting in the planning, developing and implementation of INTRO Program components
- Keeping accurate daily records of participants including registration and attendance
- Completing intake assessments on newly registered clients
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and / or a college diploma (i.e.: Education, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, etc.)
- Experience working with children and youth
- Experience in program development and facilitation
- Ability to work cross-culturally with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills
- Ability to provide a current criminal record check and child abuse registry check
- Self-motivated and able to manage a flexible work schedule (some evenings and weekends required)
Assets:
- Experience working with newcomer children and youth
- Understanding of settlement challenges and barriers that exist for newcomer youth and their families
- Additional languages
- Class 4 Drivers License
- Current First aid, CPR training
