Tasks & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Finance and a member of the bargaining unit Unifor Local 191, the Accountant will participate in the year-end, month end, and day to day deliverables of the accounting/finance and audit team. He/she will also:

  • Record funds received, prepare bank deposits, reconcile bank and general ledger accounts and analysis.
  • Prepare:
    • payment vouchers including payments to suppliers and agencies.
    • invoices for miscellaneous receivables and monitor collections.
    • capital purchase orders and amortization schedules.
    • Statistical reports and analysis as required, including annual tax return.
  • Provide support, as required, with the preparation of monthly financial statements, year-end files and working papers, and the annual budget.
  • Assist others in the finance department by performing other duties as assigned including processing of pledge collections and donor services.
  • Participate in monthly department or team meetings.

Qualifications:

You are a value-driven team player who possesses the following attributes:

  • Formal education in accounting through enrollment in a recognized program such as CGA, CA, or CMA or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years accounting experience in a computerized environment including hands-on responsibility for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles and GAAP, and internal control systems.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with particular attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office (especially excel spreadsheets) and accounting software (Great Plains) would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to learn and thrive in a dynamic, fast paced, changing environment and manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to prioritize and work with competing tasks and deadlines.
