The North End Community Renewal Corporation (NECRC) is a non profit organization with a mandate of social, economic and cultural renewal of the north end of Winnipeg. The organization requires a full-time Communication & Event Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating key communication functions for NECRC, working with partner organizations to plan, organize and coordinate community events/activities and developing a Volunteer program that meets the needs of NECRC and north end residents/organizations.
 
The Coordinator will develop and carry out processes and projects in support of community renewal in the north end of Winnipeg, including the Merchant’s Corner project. This position requires the individual to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends.

Responsibilites:

  • All internal and external communication for the organization, including news releases, advertising, event planning, publication management, media relations, writing, communications and marketing, updating the website (Wordpress), social media
  • Facilitate planning meetings, liaising with government departments, supporting committees and working with partner organizations to plan and organize north end events (lead and supportive roles)
  • Support local neighbourhoods to undertake neighbourhood revitalization activities through student summer employment programs 
  • Securing funding for and supervising summer staff 
  • Provides orientation and training for Urban Green Teams
  • Recruiting, supervising and coordinating the activities of volunteers, including volunteer screening, placement, and training 
  • Ensuring the events/ activities fulfils all building, health and safety requirements
  • Complete internal and external reports, financials and other administrative duties, as required
  • Develop and implement an evaluation process 
  • Regularly attend community meetings in order to build capacity and establish networks between organizations

Qualifications:

  • Communication Degree or College Diploma in Creative Communications or equivalent
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills
  • Experience in writing formal reports, proposals, and news releases 
  • Ability to work with the Accountant to create, organize and maintain financial budgets up to $20,000
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with superior attention to detail
  • Good follow through and demonstrated delivery on project objectives 
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Publisher, and/or Creative Suite.

More information:

Salary: up to $35,000 per year
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (including some evenings weekends)
