The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is seeking a Mentorship Coordinator. The Mentorship Coordinator delivers the
WCWRC’s volunteer program and WE-WIL program while supporting community women. This is done using an anti-oppression approach and empowerment and harm reduction philosophy where volunteers are recruited and supported.
Objectives
- To support and assist women facing economic and social barriers to obtain valuable work experience and other services (via mentorship and community workshops)
- Develop skills of community women to become peer mentors to offer support and facilitate access to services by other low-income women
Start Date: March 31, 2014
Salary: $19-22/hr
Time requirement: 35 hours/ week – 1 year term (maternity leave)
Closing date: March 21, 2014
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director: Programming and Human Resources, the Mentorship Coordinator is responsible to the Director: Programming and Human Resources
- Supervise Drop-in Coordinator
- Coordinate and facilitate the Women Empowering Women Into Leadership (WE-WIL) group, including selecting program participants, developing and updating curriculum, evaluation and reporting results
- Support and mentor WE-WIL mentors
- Identify meaningful volunteer opportunities
- Coordinate practicum student placements within WCWRC programs
- Ensure volunteers are provided with appropriate level of supervision and direction
- Establish and implement a process for evaluating contract volunteers are aware of the schedule
- Assist with conflict resolution with volunteers and/or centre participants
- Coordinate formal and informal volunteer appreciation/recognition
- Represent the views and concerns of the volunteers and community women to board and staff
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit the appropriate volunteers
- Orient volunteers of their role and responsibilities and appropriate conduct in accordance with WCWRC personnel policy
- Organize workshops and training opportunities to build volunteers’ skills and knowledge
- Develop and implement the goals and objectives of the volunteer program and general services of the Centre
- Develop and administer records that document volunteer activities
- Ensure strong, useful program evaluation is occurring for all aspects of the Volunteer program as per funding and WCWRC requirements (using evaluation plans/tracking)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- University degree in social sciences. A combination of education and experience may be considered
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of anti-oppression framework/ theory
- Strong knowledge of diversity and inclusion
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of program evaluation
- Demonstrated strong writing and research skills
- Experience working with people who face multiple challenges and barriers including mental illness and mental health issues
- Experience in supervision of a diverse group including staff and volunteers
- Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Experience developing and managing a budget
- Experience writing proposals and reports
