Cando is a National non-profit Aboriginal community-based organization that devotes its activities towards building and strengthening Aboriginal economies, providing education, professional development, and networking opportunities for EDOs working in Aboriginal communities or organizations.
The Research Assistant Summer Student will have proven skills at researching various projects. This summer student will perform research functions for Cando under the direction and guidance of the Special Projects Coordinator and Executive Director. Duties include: conduct research as requested to respond to member inquiries; develop and maintain a list of web links to be published on the Cando website; research 2014 conference site information; provide general writing services as requested in the development of proposals, communication materials, letters and briefing memos.
Preference will be given to those with post-secondary education (in progress) with related training and experience in research and administration, ability to work with a range of age groups and personalities and ability to deal with changing priorities on a regular basis is a must. The successful applicant will have excellent research, written and oral communication skills; demonstrate a professional and business-like manner with a friendly, open and receptive personality; meet timelines and deadlines; and be able to perform multiple tasks while working on a variety of projects simultaneously.
Previous experience working in an Aboriginal organization is a definite asset. Knowledge and experience with Aboriginal people, communities and culture is a preferred qualification.
As this opportunity is funded in-part by the Rupertsland Institute-Metis Centre of Excellence, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Metis youth (between age 15-30);
- Be a full-time, returning student in the following academic year;
- Meet the requirements of the Rupertsland Institute-Metis Centre of Excellence;
- Not collecting or eligible for Employment Insurance.
