Ka Ni Kanichihk is now recruiting for the following temporary (possibly longer term) position:

Instructor Assistant:

Reports to the Director of Workplace Essential Skills Programs and Services and is responsible for the planning, implementing, and instructional assistance to the Workplace Training Programs, relating to program objectives and deliverables.  The Instructor Assistant will also provide in class computer technology training and support in Microsoft Office 2013.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have Microsoft Office Specialist certification and proficiency in Microsoft Office 2013 and other basic computer and information technology as well as a certificate in Adult Education or post secondary education in related fields is preferred.  The candidate must have experience in instruction, curriculum development, and/or lesson planning for adult students.  The successful candidate will act as an instructor, helping students successfully make the transition to a professional or academic environment through activities and support.

The incumbent must be able to work cooperatively in a team-based environment and exhibit a high degree of attention to detail.  They must be able to work cooperatively in a team-based environment and exhibit a high degree of attention to detail. 

Demonstrated relationship with Indigenous culture, social, and learning priorities.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Act as an instructor through activities including: In class tutoring, mentoring independent and group projects, planning activities and informational opportunities; leading whole group and small group initiatives; and serving as a role model, mentor, and liaison.
  • Prepare lessons for and lead the class when required.
  • Prepare materials for tutor-led classes/groups.
  • Prepare and revise student rosters.
  • Monitor and document student attendance and progress.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator and Instructor to:
  • Manage enrolment of new students.
  • Gather, create, organize, and implement educational materials/curriculum.
  • Assist in testing, record results; meet with students as necessary regarding progress.
  • Provide instructional support as needed.
  • Attend seminars, training sessions and meetings when required.
  • Assist the students with their project based assignments.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for academic and leadership behaviors as well as meet with students outside of class as needed.
  • Be reasonably accessible to the students and staff members; provide assistance to include appropriate referrals to the students and facilitate communication between the students and staff members.
  • Provide case management support with whole unit when required.
  • Participate and arrange off site events when required.

The ability to speak an Aboriginal language is an asset. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal candidates.
