Kitchen Coordinator/Cook:

The Kitchen Coordinator reports to the Youth Mentorship and Leadership Manager and is responsible for menu planning, cooking, youth volunteer supervision and shopping. Ability to coordinate larger events may also be required.

Hours per week:  16 hours 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday to Thursday. Valid drivers’ license and use of a vehicle is and asset.

Position is a short term part time contract until the end June 2014 (renewable).

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Grade 12 or equivalent; have proven catering or cooking service experience utilizing kitchen equipment, including menu planning and meal preparation within a budget.  The candidate must demonstrate supervisory skills, ability and experience in kitchen environments and have a Food Safety Certificate for Food Handlers.  The candidate must have empathy for the needs of youth, excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle physical tasks requiring lifting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan a monthly menu within a specific budget and prepare nutritious meals;
  • Plan and prepare the menus for Special Event Meals in collaboration with appropriate staff;
  • Responsible for the shopping and inventory for monthly menu and any other special events;
  • Operates the kitchen in compliance with regulations and ensures that volunteers and staff comply with these regulations;
  • Label leftover foods with name, date and initials.
  • Ensures that all kitchen equipment, i.e. stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave etc., are kept clean and the food preparation and storage areas are well-maintained.
  • Establish cleaning schedule for cupboards, fridge, etc.

The successful candidate must provide a criminal record and child abuse registry check.
