ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Haida Gwaii Higher Education Society is looking for a creative, dynamic and committed individual to lead our organization. This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with a dedicated team on innovative educational initiatives. The Executive Director oversees the management of operations, the financial viability of the organization, strategic direction, and community and public relations and is accountable to the Board of Directors. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about innovative approaches to education, transformative learning and sustainable management of natural resources.

ABOUT US

We are a non-profit organization that develops and delivers world-class education inspired by the communities and environments of Haida Gwaii (www.haidagwaiisemester.com). In partnership with leading universities, we offer students an immersive, experiential learning opportunity in a rural, resource-dependent community in transition. Here the Haida Nation, Islands communities, and provincial and federal governments are working together through complex joint management models towards reconciliation and sustainability. As the management of natural resources around the globe becomes increasingly complex, our programs provide students on-the-ground experiences with local leading-edge solutions that prepare them to become future leaders and decision-makers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree, masters or Ph.D. preferred, or a combination of experience and demonstrated equivalency in a discipline relevant to our organization or programs (e.g., business, management, environmental science, First Nations studies, forestry and/or natural resource management)
  • Minimum five years relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, foster and enhance strategic relationships with partners, funders, community and stakeholders
  • Previous success fundraising and managing budgets
  • Meaningful experience working with First Nations and rural communities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
