Prince’s Charities Canada (PCC), the Canadian charitable office of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, is seeking an individual to join our team as a PSiB Young Business Connector (YBC). The YBC will be connecting business and marketing development opportunities with the tenant organizations of Daniels Spectrum, a newly developed cultural hub in Regent Park.
PCC and Daniels Spectrum have launched a pilot project to create social enterprise opportunities for Daniels Spectrum’s eight tenant organizations in the corporate events industry. End of 2014, Daniels Spectrum will host an industry event to showcase the tenants’ offerings to high-level corporate leaders, in an effort to encourage social purchasing practices in a focused, place-based solution.
We are seeking an inventive, self-directed and results-driven individual. They will work closely with the eight tenants of Daniels Spectrum to identify services that they wish to sell, to develop their business and marketing capacity, and to assist them in preparing for an industry event end of year. This is an exciting pilot that requires an entrepreneurial mind, to set and achieve high goals and outcomes.
Objectives of the position:
- Focused business /marketing development and service identification with the tenants;
- Developing a streamlined system for accessing diverse tenant services, without overloading tight resources;
- Support effective engagement to corporate networks and associations who purchase these services;
- Create a framework for tracking and reporting outcomes of the pilot; develop capacity for growth, scaling and replicating of initiative.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be pursuing an MBA-level program, or is a young professional with a strong business background;
- Have a career interest in social innovation and/or the arts and/or community development;
- Demonstrate strong project management skills and entrepreneurial spirit;
- Demonstrate sensitivity and an inclusive approach to working with individuals and organizations with varying skills, capacities and expertise;
- Have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement ability.
Experience in business development in a non-profit setting an asset.
Experience in organizing workshops and mentorship programs an asset.
Sample daily tasks:
- Work closely with eight unique tenant organizations to evaluate capacity, appropriateness, and gaps to develop sustainable social enterprise offerings;
- Identify, organize, and mobilize third-party learning resources in business development, marketing etc. for the tenants (workshops, mentorship, programs, etc.);
- Schedule and facilitate meetings between tenants, project working group(s), and other stakeholders;
- Develop a report at the end of the position on challenges, learnings, effectiveness of model and opportunities to scale to other communities.

Since opening in September 2012, this colourful new facility has become a destination for culturally-diverse performances, celebrations, community and public events. The building is home to seven tenant organizations, including Artheart Community Art Centre, Centre for Social Innovation, COBA Collective of Black Artists, Native Earth Performing Arts, Pathways to Education, Regent Park Film Festival and the Regent Park School of Music. Daniels Spectrum features several performance and event spaces: Ada Slaight Hall, a flexible ground-floor event theatre; the Artscape Lounge, a café, performance and reception space; and MDC Partners Courtyard, and outdoor performance court.
This is a paid position. The Young Business Connector will work in collaboration with the eight tenant organizations, various staff at Daniels Spectrum, and the Social Purchasing Initiative working groups of business leaders and event professionals.
The Young Business Connector will report to the Special Projects Lead, PSIB and Director, PSIB at Prince’s Charities Canada.
