Manager of Youth Programs

Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to fill the full-time position of Manager of Youth Programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the six youth programs and 13 youth staff members are supported in all aspects. We are looking for a highly motivated, organized and passionate individual who is able to bring strong leadership and management to their work, as well as creativity and passion. SNA runs some of the best inner city programs for youth, our organization focuses on helping youth from a perspective of community development using firm principles in equality, social justice and restorative justice.

Primary responsibilities include:

Program Management:

  • Oversee all SNA youth programs, and facilitating weekly Youth Program meetings, which include: Building Belonging (6-12 year old), Youth Drop-in (13-18 year old), Homework Club, and Sports Program. In addition you will provide support for the Cultural Integration Youth Outreach program and the First Jobs for youth program.
  • Ensure all internal and donor reporting is completed
  • Provide evaluations for staff and programs
  • Supervise staff to ensure programs are meeting goals and expectations
  • Ensure data management and tracking systems are in place
  • Track budget and expenses

Staff supervision:

  • Provide support and direction to all youth staff, including capacity building and trainings
  • Provide crisis support for staff
  • Annual performance reviews

Restorative Justice:

  • Ensure restorative justice process is central to all behaviour management
  • Ensure all staff are trained and understand how to use existing work systems, including collaboration between SNA and City of Winnipeg staff
  • Work to develop culture of restorative justice

Partnerships:

  • Represent SNA at network meetings
  • Ensure relationships with partners are strong

MERC Integrated Team:

  • Be the lead for youth staff at the team meetings
  • Work with City of Winnipeg staff to ensure a strong partnership

Community event planning:

  • Ensure community events are run effectively, emphasizing youth engagement at events
  • Support staff in planning and running monthly events

Volunteer Management:

  • Ensure staff are following volunteer management procedures
  • Recruiting, engaging, and supporting volunteers

Desired qualifications:

  • Relevant education or experience in youth programming, wraparound, social work, community development, inner city studies, or other applicable fields.
  • Relevant training including: current First Aid & CPR, ASIST, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Creativity and ambition
  • Experience working with youth involved in gangs
  • Experience working with youth with addictions or mental health issues (especially FASD)
  • Experience working with LGBTQ* and other marginalized groups of youth
  • Understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice System
  • Understanding of Restorative Justice theory and practices
  • Experience in managing staff

Assets:

  • Experience in crises management.
  • Volunteer coordination experience or skills.
  • Leadership skills

Hours and remuneration:

The Employee agrees to fulfill a 37.5 hour work week. SNA agrees to pay $18-$20 per hour for a 37.5 hour work week on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and employer contributions will be paid. Working hours for this position require the willingness to work some weekends and evenings, as well as flexible hours between 9:00am- 10:00pm. The selected candidate will be able to set a schedule that reflects the support required by youth staff and programming.
