The HiVE is a nonprofit social enterprise that operates a 9,000-square-foot office space located at 128 West Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. Our mission is to catalyze a community of changemakers by actively hosting a coworking and event space and by fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration within this diverse community.
This position oversees leadership, operations, financials, human resources, and IT aspects of the HiVE and liaises among various stakeholders including staff, clients, vendors and subcontractors.
Duties:
Leadership
Works with the Board of Directors to create an effective governance body
Operations
- Ensures operational aspects and needs of the organization are met in a timely and efficient manner.
- Secures or renews appropriate insurance and licences (e.g., business licence, WCB, etc.)
- Accomplishes onboarding process and orientation of new members
- Monitors and/or purchases groceries and office supplies
- Facilitates collaboration among Hive members through social events and programming
- Works with the marketing and events coordinator to plan and execute HiVE events such as open houses and holiday parties
- Updates and revises the Operations Manual or HiVE Staff Wiki on an ongoing basis
Financials
- Ensures that all financial activities relating to bookkeeping, typical to a midsize office, are addressed, in consultation with the treasurer.
- Inputs daily/monthly accounting transactions into Freshbooks
- Manages accounts receivable, including invoicing and collections
- Manages accounts payable, including preparing cheques, and paying bills and invoices
- Manages finances and expenses, A/R & A/P for the organization according to the approved budget, in liaison with the HiVE bookkeeper and treasurer
- Provides the board with regular reports on the revenues and expenditures of the organization
- Works with staff and board to seek and secure grants
- Makes biweekly cheque deposits to the bank
Human Resources
Ensures that the HiVE adheres to federal and provincial laws, HR policies are in keeping with the current workplace norms, and the board of directors is apprised of any cracks or improvements in current policies. Monitors billability issues and advises the board of directors of issues requiring attention.
- Oversees and supervises the implementation and operation of the Desk Bee Exchange Program
- Updates and revise all human resource systems, processes, and documentation
- Develops human resources policy and practices
Information Technology (IT)
Ensures all IT issues are addressed and works closely with IT consultants to solve issues.
- Troubleshoots issues and concerns regarding IT issues with help of IT consultants
- Works on quarterly HiVE newsletter
Qualifications:
- Alignment with the vision and mission of the HiVE
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Wordpress, Freshbooks.

Hours: 40 per week, during business hours
Salary: $50,000 per year
