Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to fill a PART-TIME 20 hours per week Homework Club Coordinator position. The Homework Club Coordinator is responsible for coordinating SNA’s Homework Club program, an after-school educational support program for children and youth ages 6-18.
* Note: This is a term position until the end of April 2015*


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting and supporting homework club volunteers
  • Assisting children and teens with their school homework
  • Designing and facilitating educational activities for children and teens
  • Modelling and encouraging internet safety among participants
  • Resolving youth behaviour problems in accordance with SNA policies
  • Assisting in recruiting, training, and supervising Homework Club volunteers
  • Coordinating the procurement of donations
  • Supporting participants’ goals by reaching out to parents, teachers, and other supports
  • Ensuring Homework Club computers have appropriate anti-virus and filtering software
  • Creating a database of appropriate sites and games for children and teens
  • Participate in SNA staff meetings and community events

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Education or training in coaching, teaching or educational programming
  • Ability to provide clear direction and feedback to volunteers and youth participants
  • In-depth understanding of inner city communities and diverse populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Willingness to work as part of a team, and willingness to assist other youth program leaders
  • Current Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Ability to work afternoons/evenings

Assets:

  • Current First Aid & CPR, NVCI, and/or ASIST training
  • Valid driver’s license – Class 4 additional asset
  • Experience in educational support work
  • Experience in volunteer management
  • Knowledge and experience in computer troubleshooting and internet safety measures
  • Creativity and ambition

Hours and remuneration:

The Employee agrees to fulfill a 20 hour per week position, SNA agrees to pay $15 per hour on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and employer contributions will be paid. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked (i.e., evenings and weekends). However, regular hours will be between 3 pm and 8 pm Monday to Friday.
