The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighborhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is seeking to hire a Part-Time Drop-in Support staff person for our weekly Drop-in program. The Part-Time Drop-in Support staff would help support reception in the Drop-in program every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the centre.

Start Date: January 2, 2015
Salary: $12.00/hr.
Time Requirement: 15 hours/week (10:00am-3:00pm)
Closing Date: Dec.19, 2014

Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors to the centre
  • Provide in-person and over the phone referrals to resources for visitors, and help visitors sign up for programs.
  • Help create a welcoming atmosphere in the Drop-In, including mediating conflict and calming tensions
  • Ensure Drop-In area is organized and tidy when needed.
  • Help coordinate drop-in services including laundry, shower and computer usage
  • Assist in carrying out draws and hygiene distribution (including feminine hygiene handouts)
  • Assist with community meetings or games, when scheduled
  • Make Coffee for the Drop-in Program when needed.
  • Assist the lunch cook with serving daily meals to visitors.
  • Promote Centre activities with visitors and callers
  • Assist Drop-in Supervisor with general promotion and outreach as needed.
  • Assist with the coordination of community events and celebrations

  1. Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
  2. Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  3. Ability to multi-task
