Social Entrepreneurship Evolution (SEE) is an emergent collaborative of over 20 organizations across Northern Ontario that work alongside diverse youth aged 13-35 and their communities to develop and connect sustainable infrastructure that will support youth social entrepreneurs (YSEs). NORDIK Institute provides administrative support and co-chairs the collaborative. SEE operates with a focus on collective impact and reflects the cultural, linguistic and geographic diversity of the region. For the purpose of this project, social entrepreneurs are defined as individuals who use business strategies to address social and environmental issues in their community.
The SEE Partnership Development Intern will assist SEE staff and its Stewardship Group to engage Indigenous youth around social entrepreneurship and social innovation, enhance collaboration with existing partners and build relationships with First Nation, Inuit, urban Aboriginal and Métis communities and organizations through partnership development and outreach.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in developing and implementing a strategy to engage Indigenous youth in looking at innovative ways to address community issues using business strategies.
- Assist in developing and implementing a strategy to develop partnerships with Indigenous youth, mentors and their communities throughout Northern Ontario to support youth social entrepreneurship.
- Develop outreach materials, educational resources and presentations on youth social entrepreneurship in Northern Ontario.
- Assist in coordinating meetings, speaking engagements, events and other opportunities to create awareness and dialogue.
- Assist in maintaining the SEE website and social media sites.
Skills Preferred:
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse partners
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills
- Knowledge of a diversity of Indigenous cultures
- Knowledge of Northern, rural and youth issues
- Critical understanding of the social economy, social enterprises and social entrepreneurship, particularly within the Indigenous context
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Event planning experience
- Public speaking
Qualifications:
- A recent graduate of a diploma or degree program (within the last three years)
- Limited or no job experience in field of study
- Graduates in fields of Community Economic and Social Development, Communications and Public Relations, Social Sciences or related disciplines preferred
- Available for work by January 19, 2015
