The Winnipeg Food Share Co-op (WFC) is a community service co-op whose members are community renewal organizations in Winnipeg’s inner-city. Winnipeg Food Share Co-op is committed to good, healthy food for all. Our primary focus of activity is the distribution of a Good Food Box to inner city residents, as well as a pilot Bulk Produce Program to inner-city schools.

WFC is responding to a need for healthy, accessible and affordable food for inner city families of low income, and hopes to contribute to a sense of community in the neighbourhoods it serves. The co-operative is jointly governed by many neighbourhood renewal corporations and Food Matters Manitoba.

We are looking for a program coordinator to manage the day-to-day operations of the co-op and the pilot Bulk Produce Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Receiving on-line orders and entering into system
  • Developing box contents and placing orders with food distributors/farmers
  • Preparing cheques for farmers/suppliers and getting signatures/bills
  • Printing routes/invoices and payment sheets
  • Receiving orders from suppliers/farmers
  • Training and supervising other staff
  • Developing and managing new depots and new selling opportunities
  • Cleaning and warehouse maintenance

Co-op Admin and Finance

  • Office and warehouse supply ordering and pick-up
  • Bookkeeping for the co-op
  • Managing relationship with depots and partners

Communications and Community Relations

  • Newsletter design, development, and printing
  • Representing WFC to the community
  • Media and interviews
  • Public speaking and presentations
  • Website and social media updates

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices
  • Program and/or staff management
  • Knowledge of the grocery/restaurant/food industry and food security issues
  • Ability to do physical labour/lift up to 50lbs/comfort in a warehouse setting
  • Class 5 Driver’s license

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the neighbourhoods and organizations who the co-op serves
  • Experience with co-operatives
  • Knowledge of CED principles
  • Knowledge of food safety practices

Wage: $15-18/ hour depending on experience

Hours of Work: 28 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours may be required. This is a 3-month term position with possibility of continuance.
