About The Community
As the largest urban area on Cape Breton and the island’s historical capital, Sydney, Nova Scotia offers the perfect mix of metropolitan charm and home-town hospitality.
As with many Nova Scotian communities on the ocean, the heart of Sydney is its waterfront. On a warm, summer evening it’s a great place to go for a walk, stop to listen to a busker and watch the ships in the harbour. Along the way, be sure to visit the world’s largest fiddle, built in recognition of Cape Breton’s musical talent. It is also an ideal place for those who enjoy the outdoors, with unparalleled access to unspoiled beaches, hiking in the famous Cape Breton Highlands, sea kayaking, skiing, and sailing on the world renowned Bras d’Or Lakes.
About New Dawn
At New Dawn, we are building a vibrant and sustainable Cape Breton community. Part of this building work has involved the creation of a number of businesses that address needs or fill gaps in the community: New Dawn Healthcare, New Dawn Rental Properties, New Dawn Investments, New Dawn College, New Dawn Community Engagement and Education and the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation, among others.
As an ever-growing and evolving organization, meeting the needs of the community today and preparing ourselves to meet the needs of the community tomorrow, we are in search of someone who can wrap their arms around the financial health and structures and future financial sustainability of the whole organization and its many moving parts: from managing a $10 million local investment fund to guiding the financial projections and planning of New Dawn’s businesses, to developing new revenue opportunities, and balancing our mission and vision with our annual fiscal capacity.
If you are excited by for-profit and not-for-profit financial analysis, planning, monitoring, and development, we want to hear from you. If you have great intuition, an entrepreneurial inclination, know how to take calculated business/financial risks, and can capitalize small businesses in new and creative ways we really want to hear from you.
