Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking to fill a 37.5 hour per week positionThe Spence NeighbourhoodAssociation is seeking a Community Economic Development (CED)/ Front Desk summer staff. SNA is embarking oncreating a CED strategy for our community; in this position you will do some of the initial community consultations,focus groups and generally lay groundwork for the work to be done on creating a community based CED strategy.This position will also be responsible for sitting at the front desk of our 615 Ellice office. The office is a busyenvironment with community members coming in to access a variety of resources from the different programsoffered by SNA. The chosen candidate will be the first point of contact with community members. The ability to be resourceful and supportive is a major asset to this position for this reason. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Set up and run community consultations, focus groups, surveys ...etc.
  • Connect with other agencies running CED projects
  • Connect to the Spence Neighbourhood businesses
  • Develop reports and files from consultations
  • Fundraising and sustainable fund development
  • Answer phones-direct calls through to proper channels and answer questions
  • Assist community members with resources
  • Morning set up of office and shut down in the evening
  • Manage front desk and associated responsibilities
  • Run the CED community committee

Desired qualifications:

  •  Must have an in depth understanding of inner city communities and the issues facing youth
  •  Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  •  Must enjoy team work and be willing to work with other SNA staff
  •  Must be able to provide a current criminal record check and child abuse registry check
  •  Excellent communication and organizational skills
  •  Supportive and encouraging with community members
  •  Ability to prioritize and problem solve in a fast paced environment
  •  Experienced and comfortable with office software
  •  Knowledge of the Spence Neighbourhood and resources in our community

Hours and remuneration:
The Employee agrees to fulfill a 37.5 hour work week. SNA agrees to pay $14-$15 per hour for a 37.5 hour work
week on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and
employer contributions will be paid. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked (i.e., evenings and
weekends). However, regular hours will be Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
