The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg.
WCWRC is seeking an ECE II. The ECE II will be responsible for providing quality care with a child-centered approach to the children participating in the Childcare for Newcomer Children (CNC) program ensuring health and safety. The ECE II is responsible for the care of children aged 6 months to 12 years in a parent-on-site, license-not-required setting.
Salary: $18.00/hour
Time requirement: 16.25 hours per week
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Employment and Education Coordinator, the ECE II is responsible for:
- Following all Care for Newcomer Children Requirements
- Develop a multicultural and age-appropriate program for children of parents attending programming at various sites
- Prepare the room before the children arrive and secure everything before leaving
- Interact directly with the children in playing, singing, reading, exercising, crafts
- Create an environment that fosters positive self-concept and reflects the cultural diversity of the children
- Work with the other staff members to plan and implement activities which will support and encourage English language learning while valuing and maintaining the first language
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, snacks and activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Early Childhood Education Level II Diploma or in the process of training with completion expected before July 13, 2015
- Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Level B
- Valid Criminal Record Check, and clear Child Abuse Registry Check
- Experience working with Infants aged 6 months- 10 years
- Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability/experience working in a multicultural environment
- Knowledge of a language other than English an asset
- Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of immigrant families
- Strength stamina and ability to work with active, young children
- Demonstrated strong ability to work as a member of a small team
- Ability to multi-task
Preferred:
- Must be participant focused
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework
- Understanding of Community Economic Development Concepts
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
Working conditions:
- Travel to different sites
- Schedule will vary monthly
- The job involves working with young children and includes lifting and participating in physical activities. It may also involve the supervision of children and physical activities outdoors.
